4. Lower Back

Picture
A survey in 2000 stated that almost half (49%) of adults in the UK suffered low back pain of at least twenty four hours' duration within the previous year. It also stated that 80% of adults would suffer low back pain at some point in their lives.

Pain may creep up on the sufferer, often presenting as severe stiffness, which typically may lead to a general reduction in movement and is typically felt when rising from a chair after sitting for a prolonged period, getting out of bed in the morning or when trying to put shoes and socks on.

Alternatively, pain can be severe and debilitating, with the sufferer having to remain motionless for long periods.

As with the neck, postural changes may lead to changes in the shape of the spine and increased strain on the surrounding discs, muscles and ligaments. Careful osteopathic treatment can reduce strain, improve movement and address posture.
