The Body Map - 7. Foot and ankle
- Problems with the feet (flat feet/fallen arches) can result in foot pain as well as other problems elsewhere in the body, especially the knees, hips and back. This is why an Osteopath carries out a whole-body postural analysis to identify the root cause of the patient's pain. Many problems in the body as a whole may be addressed by the use of orthotics in the patient's shoes (heel wedges, arch supports etc)
- Nevertheless, people do suffer problems in the feet and ankles in isolation, which patients turn to Osteopathy to for help. Some of the most common are Plantar Fasciitis (resulting in pain in the sole of the foot), Achilles Tendonitis (pain at the back of your heel) and a sprained ankle.
- Osteopathy approaches each of these ailments by taking a whole-body approach which seeks to reduce pain and understand its underlying cause.
